——— PROBLEM
Transportation generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions and with people being reliant on cars as their main source of transportation, it can continue contributing to climate change and global warming.

There is also a rental car shortage due to the pandemic as companies have been selling their cars when no one was renting them.
——— PROBLEM STATEMENT
How might students at the University of Washington in need of a car successfully rent one from their friends so that they can efficiently travel?
——— KEY RESEARCH INSIGHTS
-
41% of UW students aren't aware of car-sharing services
-
Many people who have rented a car feel that there is a lack of transparency in the process
-
Many people who have rented a car feel that there is a lack of transparency in the process
-
Not a lot of cars are available through classic car rentals due to COVID
——— COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
We looked into 11 car-sharing services/apps and listed out their pros and cons. After synthesizing the different platforms, we found that:
websites/apps were easily navigable, organized, detailed, and offered a wide variety of cars
car owners should have a set pick-up and drop-off point
allow renters to book car a month in advance

——— KEY CONCEPTS
allow UW students to successfully rent cars from others
allow users to efficiently travel within the Seattle metro area
——— VALUES & ETHICAL CONCERNS
My values
My stakeholders' values
My users' values
——— USER VALIDATION
After interviewing six UW students (three who have a car on campus, and three that don't), we had them go through our app and asked them a variety of questions about the usability of our prototype.
We performed user validation twice throughout this project. We revisited the same interviewees with their feedback incorporated as well and interviewed others to continue building on what we had. Due to the large scope of our project and short amount of time, we, unfortunately, weren't able to create a fully functioning (coded) app.
